Jeremy, Jeff, Ryan and all other nerds...

Casey loaded FSX onto his comp, cranked the sliders full right and is getting decent frames (around 20) but it drops pretty good in heaver scenery (6-12). I'm trying to figure out what's slowing him down.

His specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB
4GB RAM (FSB unknown...could be as low as 800MHz FSB)
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB!!!

I'd imagine with the Quad and the BEAST of a GPU he has, Flight Sim would be crisp as fuck! So, RAM (speed and amount) or Cache? Could it be that he has to tweak the settings of the game or GPU? I have yet to look at it personally.

Holler!

He is running a 768 graphics card and it is still slow. How big is his HD 500MB+ or 1TB. What kind of graphics card do you need to run that game a 1024??? I found this article:

http://flyawaysimulation.com/postt22501.html

and it appears even with two video cards basically spliting the processing speeds they get little to no results. What a fucked up game, you can't even play it. Didn't Mircosoft check if people could actually run the game before they released it? Look at the sick animated gif tho....

What resolution is he running? If he's got that flatscreen set to 1920x1200 (2.3M) pix then it might be slow. Check below how differences can affect total pixels. Check other settings like anti-aliasing too, that can make a big difference.

1024x768 = 0.786M
1280x1024 = 1.31M
1920x1200 = 2.3M

Okay, so roughly three times as much umph required if running wide screen high res versus old 1024x768. Check it and see. If all else fails, try quad-GPU. Sick!

Copy that! Maybe I'll go see it tomorrow for myself.
